MIllion Dollar Quartet

Well, it was worth the 3 year wait. Since moving to Chicago I have been champing at the bit to see this musical. Mostly because I have a bit of a crush on Johnny Cash(well, on Joaquin Phoenix playing Johnny Cash, but the music is the same mostly). My newest Schtick is ushering at the theatres in town. It works for us poor folk who would love to see shows but also like to eat 3 square meals a day and keep our electricity on. Anyhoo, after working for 10 hours on the slowest day imaginable, I hoofed on over to the Apollo theatre to begin my night ushering duties. The biggest and most pleasant surprise was the character of Jerry Lee Lewis, played by Lance Lipinsky. He is phenomenal. His mannerisms as the eccentric trail blazing piano player is a sight to be seen. I found myself drawn to watching him react to the other characters on stage and getting totally swept up in the magic of his musical genius. The entire ensemble was amazing. I just wanted to mention this in case I'm making it sound like a one-note show. Brandon Bennett as Elvis is authentic without being overdone. He nails the king's signature dance moves with ease. Chris Damiano's voice as the incomparable Johnny Cash gave new breath to those baritone notes that we know so well. And Shaun Whitley shone as the under-appreciated but kick-ass rockabilly, guitar playing Carl Perkins. The entire ensemble cast is amazing as well. It includes a smooth talking record label exec, an agile bass player and energetic drummer, and a soulful broad who gives Elvis a run for his money. So, maybe you should see this show, is all I'm saying.

Time flies

I just re-read my previous post from December of last year. Fast forwrd to September 2012. SO much has changed. I'm still at the same job and it's still treating me well (albeit slightly overworked as of late), AND I just now got back into the improv scene. It's been 1.5 yrs people! WOW. I am out of the loop for sure but am looking forward to getting to know the new faces on stages around the city. YAY. It's really hard to find where you (well "I" more specifically) fit in to this whole shebang. I am working on developing my improv voice but I think my passion is straight plays, ala Steppenwolf style. Now if I could just march in to Steppenwolf and become part of their ensemble that would be ideal. Any ideas y'all? :P

New year, new JOB!

First off, Everything is coming up TINA! I have been searching for a new job for a while, since I have been quite unhappy with my current place of employment(for a while) and have finally been hired for a fantastic animal clinic in the city. I'm excited by the level of professionalism portrayed at the new company. From the moment I walked in I knew I wouldn't have to worry about any of the concerns I had at my previous job. The final push to get me out of my current position was the coming holidays and knowing I would most likely have to work through them and not be able to go home to Florida. I'm not ok with that. Family is much too important to me to let a job decide that I pretty much have to pretend they don't exist for the holidays. SO anyway, I am very happy about the new job AND going home to Florida. YAY. It's about time!

Also, gonna pick up acting again in the new year. I MISS IT HORRIBLY!
May also take a tap class. :):):)

YAY.

Rainy Wednesday

I like being busy. No wait. That is an understatement. I love being exhaustingly busy to the point of meltdowns. Ha. Let me give you an example of a day in the life. Today, I got up nice and early to be at my yoga workstudy shift from 9-2:30. Afterwards, I booked a mani-pedi with a coupon I've been hanging onto for a while. Then I need to pick up my packet for Bike the Drive www.bikethedrive.org. Then I'm planning on going to the gym and running my slothy butt on a treadmill for 30 minutes. Tonight I have to go meet with someone who I will be catsitting for. Yikes! All good though.

All Good!

Time Check

Yikes. It's been a year since I've posted. Time for a 2011 update. Here goes:

A) Still work for the vet clinic-although of the late it has not been the pleasant experience that it has been in the past.

B) Decided to go back to school. If you know me you know that this is a huge endeavor and has been given much consideration. Much muchier consideration than before. I'm being vague so I don't jinx myself before I'm accepted into the program. Be intrigued.

C) I do a workstudy with a kickbutt yoga studio in exchange for more yoga class options than I could ever take. Happiness.

D) I have acquired an awesome black cat named Coco.

I'll try to be better about posting. I love all 3 of you readers!

Hello followers!

Hi. I haven't updated in a while and I thought that I should remedy that. I need to update the three of you on what has been going on with yours truly/ Well, to begin with, I have graduated from the Second City Improv program, concluded with a final performance that took place on May 1st. It went well, although lately I have been way too "in my head" during scenes and am trying to get back to when I didn't have to work so hard. I have also been auditioning quite a bit, and to my delight, I was chosen by ComedySportz to be on a summer rec league. I am very excited about this, because I love game-style improv. I know that improv people sometimes look down their noses at short form improv groups, but I think it takes just as much skill to perform this type of improv as opposed to the other stuff.

Exciting things are happening!

Plus, I got a bike! More news on that later!

February already?

I woke up this morning to some pretty heavy falling snow. We had a lull for a week or so and most of the snow had melted. This morning took care of all that. There is a fresh new blanket on the ground and it's still coming down pretty hard. It always seems to happen when I don't have to be into work until the afternoon. :)

I had a big audition this weekend that ended up going pretty well. Now I feel like I'm playing the waiting game to see if any of the companies are interested in me. I just wanna do a show, people!

I'll be in Florida in less than 4 days and I can't wait to catch up with all of my friends, see the parents, and see my CAT. :)

My birthday is in 6 days. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! Actually, I'm still excited about birthdays. I love them!
